Use File Explorer’s built-in control

The properties available for removal depend on the file and Windows support. The built-in dialog does not establish that every EXIF, XMP, IPTC, or proprietary field has been erased.

  1. Right-click the file in File Explorer and choose Properties.
  2. Open Details, then Remove Properties and Personal Information.
  3. Choose the copy option or select the removable properties, then confirm.

Inspect the result, not just the dialog

Open Properties on the resulting file and check the fields that mattered to you. For a deeper check, use a metadata reader that understands the file format. Keep in mind that a reader only reports the fields it recognizes.

Copying, renaming, or moving a photo does not itself clean its embedded metadata. File-system dates are also separate from capture dates stored inside the photo.

Create a fresh image in the browser

This tool starts from the visible image and writes a new PNG containing only essential image chunks. It does not preserve the original JPEG format, wide-gamut profile, or HDR representation. The original file stays unchanged.

For videos, use the separate video workflow. Removing properties in a file browser is not equivalent to inspecting a video’s tracks and container.

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP, or drop several into the tool.
  2. Remove metadata and download each PNG, or download a ZIP.
  3. Review the saved copies and share those files.
