Check what the photo contains

Open a photo in Photos, then swipe up or tap the information button. Review the capture details and map when present. This panel is useful, but it is not an exhaustive inventory of every embedded field.

Remove or exclude the location

These controls address location. They do not promise to erase camera settings, dates, captions, or every other kind of metadata.

  1. For a saved photo: open its More menu, choose Adjust Info, then Adjust Location, then No Location.
  2. For a share: tap Share, open Options, and turn Location off.
  3. For future captures: open Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, Camera, then choose Never.

Check the share options

Apple’s All Photos Data option can include the original file, edit history, and metadata when sharing through AirDrop. Treat that option as an archive-style transfer. It is not a metadata-removal switch.

Create a copy without source metadata

HEIC and Live Photo pairs are not supported here. Export a compatible still image first, or use the location controls in Photos when GPS is your only concern. Most Compatible sharing can convert a file, but conversion alone should not be assumed to remove metadata.

The clean copy is processed in your browser. It does not change your original or your Photos library.

  1. Choose a still JPG, PNG, or WebP in the tool.
  2. Select Remove metadata and download the resulting PNG.
  3. Open the downloaded copy and check its appearance before sharing.
